This is the page a careful parent reads twice. It carries our license number, our ratios, what our staff are trained in, what happens when a child is unwell, and how the building is secured — in plain language, with nothing dressed up.

Wise Owl Academy is a New Hampshire state-licensed child care center, license number CCCB-06630, licensed by the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services. We have operated continuously at 4 Merrit Parkway in Nashua since 1982.

A license is not a formality. It sets our maximum group sizes and ratios by age, the qualifications our staff must hold, our health and sanitation practices, our background-check requirements and our emergency planning, and it is enforced by inspection. You are entitled to ask to see our current license and our most recent inspection report, and we will show you both.

Teacher-to-child ratios by age

New Hampshire sets these by age group. Parents compare them directly and they are one of the few genuinely comparable numbers between centers, so we publish ours rather than describing them as "low".

Staff credentials, CPR and First Aid

Our director holds a Master's degree in Mathematics, a Bachelor's degree in Education and early-childhood coursework from Nashua Community College. Our Pre-K teacher holds a degree in child psychology and has fourteen years of experience with this age group. Every member of staff who works with children is background-checked as a condition of our license, and current CPR and First Aid status is listed for each person on our teachers page.

Our sick-child policy

Children need to stay home and be symptom-free without medication for at least 48 hours before returning. If a child develops a fever of 100.4°F or higher, vomiting or diarrhoea during the day, we will call you for pickup within the hour. We know that a 48-hour rule is inconvenient when you have a job; it exists because it is the difference between one child being unwell and a whole room being unwell.

Building security and sign-in

Every child is signed in and out by an authorised adult. Nobody who is not on your child's authorised pickup list takes your child anywhere, and we will ask for identification from someone we do not recognize even if you have told us to expect them. Ask us to walk you through the entry, the sign-in and the pickup list on your tour — it is faster to show than to describe.

Emergency preparedness

We hold a written emergency plan covering fire, lockdown, severe weather, evacuation and relocation, and we practice it. On your tour, ask where children go in each case and how you would be contacted — a center that cannot answer that quickly has not practised it.

Food and allergy handling

Tell us about every allergy and dietary requirement at enrollment and we will put it in writing on your child's record. Allergy information is posted where the staff in your child's room can see it, not filed in an office. If your child carries an EpiPen or any prescribed medication, we will show you exactly how it is stored and who is authorised to give it.

Cleaning and diaper changing

Hand washing at every transition, surfaces and toys cleaned on a schedule, and a diaper-changing routine set by our license rather than by habit. This is the least interesting part of running a childcare center and the part that keeps children well, so ask to see the change station on your tour. We would rather you did.

Current CPR and First Aid status is listed for each member of staff on our teachers page. Every adult who works with children at Wise Owl Academy is background-checked as a condition of our New Hampshire license.

Come and see the room your child would be in

Tours run Tuesdays and Thursdays, take about 30 minutes, and you will leave with a printed tuition sheet and the current openings for your child's age group. There is no obligation and no deposit to tour.
